Life's A Beach

North Myrtle Beach, September 1, 2012

sunny 92 °F

The plan for today was either the beach or golf. We all chose the beach. But first we had a little shopping to do at the outlets before they got crowded. Then Don and I had lunch with an OLD friend of his, John, and his girlfriend Dee. John and Don have been friends for 51 years, since they were boys marching in Drum Corps. They took us to the River City Cafe at Barefoot Landing and we had a great time. The food was good and the guys kept us entertained with stories from yesteryear. (I'm talking the 1960's!)

Upon returning we all spent some time at the beach, but today was even hotter than yesterday, so we had to be careful. The ocean water was almost warm due to the hot summer. The beach was very busy today, busier than yesterday probably because it is the weekend now.

I asked Jessie, the bride, to give us a recommendation for dinner and therefore Steve, Donna, Don and I went to Rockefeller's Raw Bar. It is a cute little local place just up the street. Because of its size we had to wait a bit to get in, but the food was great and the atmosphere was fun. The younger of our group went to the Boardwalk area of Myrtle Beach. They had dinner at another local place and did a lot of people watching.
We all headed to the House of Blues next for party time after the rehearsal dinner. The dinner ran a bit longer and it was so humid that none of us stayed too long. It felt really good to get back to our condo's air conditioning!

Once in a Blue Moon

North Myrtle Beach, SC, August 31, 2012

sunny 88 °F

Don, Ryan and I all ran this morning, but boy was it humid :(. Afterwards there was much pool and surf swimming. As a matter of fact, that was all that was done for most of the day. The wedding party offered a BBQ for the out of town guests this afternoon and we had a very nice time. We had burgers, dogs and chicken with salads and dessert. Oh yes, and beer! And other beverages as well. It was so good to see our family and friends that we hadn't seen in a long time. Justin and Gwen arrived after the BBQ because they had to work a full day today.

South of the Border

North Myrtle Beach, SC, August 30, 2012

overcast 88 °F

We got a nice start this morning for the last leg of this particular trip to North Myrtle Beach and arrived about 3 pm. Ryan and Khristina had arrived about noon and took care of all the check in procedures. We have a nice 3 bedroom condo on the fourth floor of Windy Hill Dunes. Our balcony overlooks the ocean, pool, hot tub and lazy river and it is very nice. The four of us are all settled in, now. Don went in the ocean this afternoon and Ryan and Khristina went in the hot tub. There were too many places to choose from for dinner, so we just ended up at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. After dinner my brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Donna arrived and got settled in, as well.

I Can See For Miles and Miles . . .

Fredericksburg, VA, August 29, 2012

sunny 83 °F

Ryan went to Cross Country practice with his team this morning and Don and I scooted out. It was 7:10am and the temperature was 47! Actually, it was a beautiful morning for a drive, a 500 mile drive. As we drove south on Rt8 in NY we ran into quite a bit of fog, but it didn't last too long and the rest of the way was sunny. Interstate 81 took us through Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and finally Virginia. Then we went through beautiful horse country along Rt66 and 17 until we got to the dreaded I-95. We are staying in Fredericksburg, VA at a very nice Country Inn and Suites. We like them for their wonderful breakfasts and never ending cookies. For dinner we chose the old standby, Cracker Barrel, where I played the peg game on the table and won! Woohoo! It doesn't take much to excite me!I won! I'm a genius!

I won! I'm a genius!

It was a long day of driving, but uneventful, and tomorrow will be shorter. Yeah!
High of 83 today with full sun.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

New Hartord, NY, August 28, 2012

sunny 80 °F

This morning the four of us packed up our campers and moved on out, with Don and I heading to New Hartford and Bob and Shirley heading to Dexter. We had quite a bit of rearranging to do when we got to Treasure Isle to get ready for the next adventure. A stop at Ryan and Khristina's was the next order of business. Boy, was Norman glad to see Don! They went out to play immediately. While we were there Don went next door to visit with our neighbor, Clinton.
Ryan had the opening for his photography show today. It is called Gaelic Perceptions and is running for a month at SUNYIT here in Utica. The photos are beautiful, from his recent trip to Ireland. Today was a reception for the opening and it was so nice to see so many of his friends there.

We met up with a friend and had dinner together after the show. Then it was time for Bunco. We only had 8 players tonight, but it all worked out fine and we had a good time. For the second month in a row I won! Woohoo!
