overcast 66 °F

Today was a clean up day in anticipation of our leaving tomorrow. We put the bikes in the truck and rearranged all that needed to be rearranged. We packed up what we could. While we were doing this we were also dodging the rain, which came and went all day.
This evening our New Hartford friends, Annette and Phil, came up and we had dinner. The four of us met at Cinderella's in Sylvan Beach and had a great dinner, then wandered over to the lake to see the sunset. Phil and Annette came back here for a while and we had some good laughs and made some plans. Maybe we can get them to come to Florida, finally!

Disney Friends :)

Sylvan Beach, NY, September 21, 2012

overcast 72 °F

We spent a quiet morning at the campground. I did laundry, Don did a few things at the house. At lunchtime we had guests arrive. Our Disney friends, Rob and Cathy, came over for the afternoon. It was so good to see them and send time together again! We gave them a tour of the campground and spent time catching up. Then we played cards. The four of us get together regularly in Florida and play Sascatchewan, which is a form of Hand and Foot. We always play guys against girls and today the girls won! Yeah, we were due. We had a great time seeing them and were so glad they came today.
The sky never cleared up today, but it didn't rain until Rob and Cathy headed back home to Livonia. I think the temps reached the low 70s, though.

We couldn't see the forest for the trees.

Camden, NY, September 19-20, 2012

sunny 75 °F

Yesterday was a laid back day. We ran some errands in New Hartford and stopped to say goodbye to Ryan and Khristina.
This morning it was cold, 41 outside, so we laid low for the morning. In the afternoon it had warmed up quite a bit so we took a short ride up to Camden. If the wind wasn't quite so strong we were going to take our bikes and go for a ride, but we left them at home. Linda and Phil told us about a nice park in Camden, so we went to find it. It is called Forrest Park and we did find it. It is off the main road a bit and very pretty. Instead of biking we walked through and enjoyed the scenery. There are two creeks that converge in the park along with multiple pavilions and some hiking trails. While we were walking the road a beautifully restored 1949 Lincoln drove by. They stopped and we watched as a photo shoot of the car took place. That was interesting. We wandered around for an hour or so on the road and trails before heading back home.

It really was a gorgeous day today. The temps got up into the mid 70s, but the wind was pretty strong all day, so that kept it a bit cooler. The sky was perfectly blue with no clouds until afternoon.

And the rains came . . .

Sylvan Beach, NY, September 18, 2012

rain 65 °F

Happy Birthday to fellow full-timer, Bob! Hope it has been a good one. Now we are both the same age again!
The rain started about 6 this morning and hasn't stopped yet. It's been light, it's been heavy, it's been windy and calm. Crazy day. We had some thunderstorm and tornado watches and warnings, but they all seem to be done.
We had a few errands to run today. One was to go to Fort Stanwix National Park and get my Senior Pass. When you turn 62 you can purchase a lifetime senior pass for $10!! What a bargain, so I got mine.
We went to the Turning Stone Casino for dinner tonight. Two couples that we worked with in New Hartford met us there and we had a great time. We ate at the buffet and all the food was very good. The six of us really enjoyed ourselves, then on the way our we ran into Don's brother, Bob and Dee! Don wanted to stay and throw away a little bit of money, so we did that. It didn't take very long at all!

Even though it rained all day the temps weren't too bad, mid 60s. We also had some high winds this afternoon, but they were over quickly.

Up the Creek

Sylvan Beach, NY, September 17, 2012

sunny 77 °F

We were picked up by our friends, Paul and Ann, and we all went to lunch at Cinderella's in Sylvan Beach. It turned out to be a beautiful day, so we were invited to go out on their party boat. We had never been on it, so off we went. The water was smooth and the sun was shining. We rode into the canal and up Fish Creek and enjoyed the views of campgrounds, homes and wildlife. We couldn't go all the way up the creek to Treasure Isle, though, because the water is too shallow, but it was a great ride. Then we went out on Oneida Lake and rode over to see their camp across the on the other side. There were hardly any other boats out, surprisingly enough. After returning the boat to its dock at the marina we drove to Paul and Ann's house and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening. We snacked and talked Nd ate dinner. It was a great day, very relaxing and fun. We were lucky we went out on the boat when we did because the wind kicked up and the lake got quite choppy.
